The quality of the air we breathe has become particularly important, especially due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Building our homes, businesses, and offices with materials that release low levels of organic compounds harmful to health and the environment, such as VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds), has become equally important.
For this reason, in today's article, we want to talk to you about the EMICODE classification of GEV, the German association that deals with the certification of products used in flooring installation, such as coatings, adhesives, and sealants that emit low levels of VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds).
Finally, we will highlight the benefits of using this type of product and highlight the COLLANTI CONCORDE adhesives that have obtained EMICODE certification.
THE GERMAN ASSOCIATION GEV: A POINT OF REFERENCE FOR THE BUILDING INDUSTRY
GEV is a German association for emissions control, founded in 1997, working in the construction and consumer protection sectors. Its goal is to protect workers, end consumers, and the environment by providing a certification system for products used in construction, such as adhesives, that release low levels of VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds), organic compounds that disperse into the air even for many days after their installation.
GEV is recognized globally and is a leading provider of construction products for construction companies, artisans, architects, and designers. Turning to GEV to guide your business's product selection means equipping yourself with cutting-edge products that embrace a greener future for construction.
THE GEV CLASSIFICATION
GEV divides building materials into three emission classes: EC2, EC1 and EC1PLUS.
The class EC2 This is the basic one. The product meets the minimum emission level requirements.
The class EC1 It is the one that certifies a very low level of emissions and therefore satisfies even the most stringent requirements in terms of health and environmental protection.
The class EC1PLUS, finally, is the premium class and certifies the minimum level of emissions that is scientifically possible to guarantee today.
Once a product falls into one of the three classifications and obtains certification, the manufacturer commits to continuing to pursue and ensure low emissions levels to continue to merit it. GEV subjects companies to rigorous random checks: if the same company encounters repeated irregularities, the certification can be revoked and, in the most serious cases, permanent exclusion from obtaining it is possible.
WHY IT IS IMPORTANT TO CHOOSE GEV-EMICODE CERTIFIED ADHESIVES
For people's health
Especially in recent years, we've seen how many people are spending more and more time indoors, often poorly ventilated. It's therefore important to choose building materials with low VOC emissions.
For the planet
Fortunately, the construction industry is also starting to turn green. In the future, the cost of buildings will also be based on the materials used during construction: therefore, the use of pollutants will lead to a devaluation of the property.
To be more competitive on the market
More and more tenders require at least certification EC1. Furthermore, some building programs such as LEED, DGNB and BREEAM promote the use of EMICODE certified products.
GEV PRODUCTS BY COLLANTI CONCORDE
Collanti Concorde is proud to offer a line of EMICODE-certified products. We began certifying some of our products in 2021 when we obtained EC1 certification.PLUS, which certifies that the products PROTOVIL 2821, The DELTAVIL 440/C and theEXTRAPUR They are products that release a minimum level of VOCs.
The Protovil 2821 it is designed for rivestimenti di pannelli in truciolare, mdf e altri supporti assorbenti con impregnated papers or PVC sheets. It is used in gluing furniture for bedrooms, offices, etc.
The Deltavil 440/2C it is instead used for the manufacture of raised floors intended for offices and commercial premises.
Finally, theExtrapur It is used for the manufacture of caravan, curtain wall panels, cold storage rooms, insulating walls and doors. It requires that at least one of the parts to be glued contributes water to the glue line.
